McKay Moore Sohlberg - Laurie Ehlhardt - Compensating for Impairments in Memory and Executive Functions: How Can We Maximize the Effectiveness of External Aids and Adaptive Devices?
The presentation will review the literature and proposed evidence based practice guidelines for implementing external memory aids. Particular attention will be given to reviewing instructional methods effective for teaching the use of external aids or compensatory devices when the learner has moderate to severe impairments in memory and executive functions. Adapted email and navigational tools for this population will be used to illustrate the instructional principles. Participants will be provided with an opportunity to apply principles reviewed in the session using a sample case.
